Victory puts Sweetnorthernsaint back in spotlight
Calder Race Course gained a potential new marquee horse Saturday when Sweetnorthernsaint coasted to victory in the Primal Stakes. Sweetnorthernsaint won the 1 1/16-mile race by 6 ¾ lengths on a main track listed as sloppy, and trainer Leo Azpurua Jr. said he is targeting the horse for two of Calder's biggest stakes this fall.

Former Derby favorite to race at Calder
Sweetnorthernsaint, who was the betting favorite in the 2006 Kentucky Derby, will take a major step in a comeback Saturday. The 5-year-old gelding is among eight entrants in Calder Race Course's $55,000 Primal stakes, at 1 1/16 miles on the dirt.
